As a mom myself, I know something that has completely changed the way I photograph families.
Even before I became a mom, I loved photographing beautiful families. But after becoming a mom, I understood why these photos matter.
I know what it’s like to notice your baby’s cheeks changing, to realize your toddler suddenly looks like a little kid, or to wish you could freeze time just for a little while longer.
As moms, we’re usually the ones behind the camera. We capture birthdays, first steps, bedtime stories, vacations, and everyday moments. But so often, we’re missing from those memories ourselves.
If you’ve ever worried that your child is “too wild” for family pictures, let me reassure you… they’re probably exactly who I’m hoping to photograph.
Children are naturally curious, energetic, silly, shy, and wonderfully unpredictable. They weren’t made to stand perfectly still and smile on command for an hour.
Instead of forcing poses, I follow your child’s lead. If they want to explore, we’ll explore. If they want to twirl in circles, we’ll twirl. If they need a cuddle with Mom, that’s where the camera goes. If they need a snack break or a few extra minutes to warm up, that’s perfectly okay. Some sessions move quickly, while others take a little longer.
The photos families treasure most usually aren’t the ones where everyone is looking perfectly at the camera.
They’re the giggles after Dad tells a silly joke, the tiny hand reaching for yours, the way your toddler wraps their arms around your neck without being asked. The wind blowing through your daughter’s hair as she runs across a field, the belly laughs, the forehead kisses, the cuddles. I could go on and on and on.
Those are the memories that deserve to be preserved! That’s why my sessions are built around connection rather than perfection. I’ll absolutely capture a few "smiling-at-the-camera" portraits, but my favorite images are the in-between moments that tell the story of your family exactly as you are.
Children don’t stay little for long.
